LI, X.Y., BSc, MSc, PhD

Prof. X.Y. Li joined The University of Hong Kong in 1996 after receiving his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Arizona. His Ph.D. thesis won the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award from the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) in 1997, and he was awarded an Outstanding Young Researcher by the University in 2004. His main areas of teaching are in water quality measurement, water resources and wastewater treatment, environmental transport process and water quality modelling. His research interests include particle transport in natural waters; coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation of solid pollutants in water and wastewater treatment; bioaggregation and granulation, sediment-water-pollutant interactions; membrane application and advanced oxidation processes (AOP) in water and wastewater treatment and disinfection; and wastewater-derived disinfection-by-product (DBP) problem in drinking water supply. Prof. Li is an expert in particle transport phenomenon and membrane filtration process. He has developed models for particle flocculation in water, membrane fouling in membrane filtration and membrane bioreactors, and sediment nutrient flux.
