- Anther -The male part of a flower
that contains the pollen
- Calyx -Structure formed from the
sepals
- Corolla -Structure formed by the
petals, usually the most visible part of a flower.
- Fertilization -The joining of the
male and female gametes after the pollen tube has grown to meet the ovule
- Filament -A tubular structure supporting
the anther
- Germination -Commencement of new
growth in a seed or pollen grain
- Imbibing -Absorbing water before
germination
- Ovary -The lower part of the style
containing the ovules which develops into the fruit
- Ovule -The immature seed before
fertilization
- Petal -A coloured leaf-like part
of a flower which together form the corolla
- Petiole -The stalk that attaches
a leaf to the stem
- Pod -The long thin capsule containing
seeds characteristic of legume species
- Pollen -The male gametes in higher
plants are contained in small pollen grains.
- Pollen tube -A tube which grows
out from the pollen after germination and carries the male gametes down
the style to the ovary
- Pollination -The transfer of pollen
to the stigma
- Sepal -Leaf-like structure which
covers the flower bud before it opens
- Stamen -Male part of the flower
comprising the anther supported by a filament
- Stigma -the female part of the
flower that receives the pollen
- Style -A tubular structure supporting
the stigma
