Bauhinia galpinii N.E.Br., Galpin's Bauhinia
Found only in cultivation in Hong Kong, of African origin, grown pan-tropically. A low spreading shrub to 1m high with alternate, obovate heart shaped leaves with 2 lobes . Veins (9) radiating from the base of the leaf. The margin is entire and the surfaces smooth and hairless. Size ranges from 5 - 7cm in diameter, petiole to 5 cm long.
Flowering, .Flowers small in clusters. Corolla of 5 bright red petals, Ovary superior.
Fruit, dark pod to 10 cm long, 3 cm wide and thin, containing 5 to 11 seeds.
