Bauhinia championii Benth., Champion's Bauhinia

A native species also found in S. China and S.E.Asia. The creeper grows profusely on other vegetation on hill sides. Has alternate medium sized, pointed heart shaped leaves with 2 lobes that may often be joined together. Veins (7-9) radiating from the base of the leaf. The margin is entire and the surfaces smooth and hairless. Size ranges from 6- 10cm in diameter, petiole to 4cm long. The young leaves flush red in the active growing season.

Flowering, from July to September. Many small white flowers in a raceme, corolla of 5 narrow petals, stamens 3 fertile pinkish and 5-7 smaller infertile. Ovary superior.

Fruit, dark pod to 10cm long, 3cm wide and thin, containing 5 to 10 seeds.
