Follow the steps below for conducting an experiment in studying the variation of sample proportions.
You will need the following Fathom file: sample_prop1.ftm
The file will open with all data you expect at the end of the experiment. You may want to clear all windows except the original collection in order to carry out the experiment starting from the first step below.

Viewlets 

Create a sample collection from another fixed collection of color balls (the population). Record the proportion of red balls in the sample. Observe the variation in the sample proportions as more samples of the same size are generated. 

Increase the number of sample size (i.e. the number of cases in each sample) and observe its effect on the variation of sample proportions. (download record sheet) 

Alter the proportion of red balls in the original collection (the population) and repeat the experiment above. 

Create another collection of measures, which records the sample proportions (of red balls) from a larger number of samples (of a fixed size). Study the variation of sample proportions with a histogram. 

Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the sample proportions contained in the collection of measures. Observe the longterm pattern of the variation of sample proportions as the total number of samples grows. (download record sheet)
